Horses are extremely large animals and many years ago used to be used as working horses. Whether they were pulling carts or lugging canal boats, they were all working hard and not getting much enjoyment out of life. Then came the engine. This almost put horses out of business. Cars were invented and vans were made. Horses were no longer needed to cart things around. These majestic animals became animals of leisure and soon were only used for riding. There are still some places that will do pony and cart rides although they tend to be in tourist areas. Horses became pets and soon lots of people were riding them for pleasure. Unfortunately things are never quite that simple. People began to make money out of horses and things became quite expensive. Saddles for example have to be leather and made to measure too. What used to cost £50 for a second hand saddle now costs up to £1000 because they now need to be measured and made exactly to the horses dimensions. Then comes the livery, food, insurance. It all adds up. Even a riding lesson can cost up to £60 an hour. So, if like me, you are a horse lover on a budget why not invest in some animal cufflinks.
