Philatelists collect stamps. The older and rarer the stamps are, the greater is the desire of these philatelists to own them. Similarly, more unique designs or a complete set of a series of stamps with the same theme command a much higher price than spare pieces. It is the same way with other collectors and their chosen collectible items. Whether it be perfume bottles, refrigerator magnets or even cufflinks, the make, design, rarity and complexity of the items determine the demand and price.
Cufflinks collectors are an interesting lot. There are so many different designs available that it must be a puzzle which ones are worth investing in. Even if we narrow down the collectibles to designer cufflinks, there are still probably thousands of unique pieces to choose from. If you decide to buy all these cufflinks and studs just to complete a collection, you will probably not have any money left over to buy the shirts on which to use them.
Most collectors have a set of criteria to narrow down and specialize their collections. Some choose to collect only formal sets or only designs made by specific designers. Whatever criteria you set, however, some items just seem to be worth it. Take, for example, the CZ Knot Formal Set. These cufflinks are made of zirconia semiprecious stones set in 14 karat gold bases. Long accepted as a lower-cost alternative to diamonds, cubic zirconia gives almost as much luster and shimmer as the real thing. What collector can resist such a luxurious item? It will surely add richness to any elegant collection.
